A new, W*x-free start
Good evening! You may have noticed that we have a new home, and a sparkling new web home for all of our books, blogs, information and events. I wanted to use this first blog post to explain why we’ve made this change, and what it means for us going forwards as a company.
Written Off is a member of Publishers for Palestine, a collective of publishers, writers and artists who are committed to the liberation of Palestine. In their own words: “Publishers for Palestine is a global collective of publishers, and others who work in publishing around the world, who stand for justice, freedom of expression, and the power of the written word.”
As part of our commitment to supporting the actions of PfP, we are aligning ourselves with the boycotting of businesses and services that are located on occupied land. Our previous website provider, Wix, is unfortunately on this boycott list, and so we have made the decision to migrate to SquareSpace until we are in the position to pay for a professional Wordpress developer to overhaul the site in its entirety.
Our Wix subscription was due to expire in November 2024, and so it made sense for us to use this transition to relocate. However, as a former English teacher, web design is not my strongest point, and so you may notice some hiccups or issues in the forthcoming weeks as we iron out any problems. We are hoping to have the website completed in full by December.
Some exciting, upcoming, NEW things we intend to bring to you via this new start are:
A new Patreon space for our community to support us in more (and cheaper!) ways than simply buying books;
A resources section, including teaching maps and lesson plans for a range of our poems and collections;
A new ‘misprint’ section of our store, where we will be selling mis-printed products at a lower cost;
A new submissions window for our 2026 roster and the fourth edition of our anthology of Northern Writing and Photography, Ey Up!
We are really excited to be sharing this new beginning with you, our faithful and dedicated supporters. Without you, we would never have made it this far - in February, we celebrate our THIRD birthday! As most small businesses fail to last past their third year, this is a huge achievement for us, and we appreciate all of your purchases, re-posts, open-mic attendance and ticket purchases.
I hope that we can count on your continued support as we move into this crucial third year, as we prepare to bring you more radical poetry, more incredible authors and a bigger range of events and activities than ever before.
With love,
Bec x
